A number of European countries are introducing low emission zones, mostly in cities but also in their surroundings. These zones are also gradually being extended in neighbouring Austria. A condition for entering such a zone is that the vehicle be fitted with an eco plaque. Fines of up to €2,180 can be imposed for failure to display the eco-label .
