I need a car for a few months and as cheap as possible - how to do it?

Naturally, we all need some means of moving ourselves or things from A to B, other than on our own two feet. We use buses, trains, trams, carpools or cars.

In terms of health safety, since March this year, with the spread of COVID-19, people have started to look around more for individual transport, preferring it to public transport. This move is quite logical. However, a number of people have stumbled when they have found that, for whatever reasons, they are unable, unwilling or incapable of getting to their own car.

So what are the options when I want to secure a car.

I can get a car:

1. buy - new or used
2. rent - new or mostly new

First option - buying a car

You need your own or other people's resources for this. If you only need a car for a few months, this is probably not the most ideal option, as the buying process itself is quite time-consuming. First, you choose the make and model of the particular car you like. Then you make a configuration and ask for a quote. You find that the % discount you have been given seems small, so you try to compare until you decide to look for another make and model to arrive at an even lower price. This process takes a few days and requires your active time and comparison as well as some knowledge of cars to make the best value for money decision. Once you have reached the terms you are interested in, you will find that you will have to wait several months for your vehicle. Due to the impact of the pandemic, waiting times for almost all vehicle brands have increased from 50% to 100%, with average delivery times as high as 6 - 12 months. So this does not solve you current problem of getting to your car immediately or in the shortest possible time. So if you decide to wait for a new car, you still need to tighten up the financing. If you have your own funds, less to worry about, but you need to tell yourself that you are putting money into the car that you could have used for something else, perhaps gainful employment. If you need to borrow money for the car, this is where the process of choosing how to finance it between a loan and a lease comes in. You then need to choose a bank offer. However, it should not be forgotten that banks are very strict about who they lend money to and under what conditions, because they assess your creditworthiness, which is, for example, your income, length of employment or your liabilities.

So if you need a vehicle as soon as possible and don't want to spend a lot of money, this won't be the right form for you. You may find yourself in another possible option, renting the vehicle itself.

The second option - renting a car

You can rent a vehicle and simply eliminate the problems you faced with the first option, buying a vehicle. You can drive practically immediately, for just a fraction of the money, as you put down a refundable deposit and your commitment is minimal. You only pay for the car for the period you actually need it. When you don't need it, you simply return it. As a rule of thumb, the longer you rent the car, the better the rental price. That's why we differentiate between leases:

1. daily, i.e. short-term -usually for a few days
2. monthly - usually for a few months
3. yearly - 12 months
4. several years - according to preference, most often for 3 -4 years

When deciding whether to take a car for a shorter or longer period of time, you need to think about whether you want to commit or want maximum freedom. This is because when you commit, the price of the lease is reduced even further and you save a good chunk of money. Therefore, all you need to do is think about how long you want the car for and decide accordingly.
