Autumn is a popular season for tourists, so if you're one of them, this article is for you. In the article you will find our tips for tourist areas in the neighbouring Czech Republic, Austria and Slovenia accessible by car from Bratislava.

One of the most famous European tourist destinations is Triglav Park. Triglav National Park is 5 hours away from Bratislava and is one of the oldest parks in Europe. In the park you can do both easier and harder hiking. Visiting the national park is charged: 9€ for adults, 5€ for students and 1-3€ for children. Slovenia's Soča River, which flows through the park, is one of the most beautiful in Europe. The emerald green river, surrounded by mountains and hiking trails, offers a variety of sports and recreational activities. Trips to the Boka, Kozjak, Virje and Savica waterfalls, which is the highest in the country, are also a major attraction. When visiting Triglav, don't forget to visit the idyllic Lake Bled.

Lake Bled is one of the warmest lakes in the Alps and allows swimming throughout the summer until September. The biggest and most photographed attraction of Slovenian Bled is the church, which is right on the lake. It can be reached by boat, in summer it is possible to swim to it and in winter, when the lake is sufficiently frozen, it is possible to walk to it. There is also a castle above the lake. Bled Castle is the oldest castle in Slovenia. Admission to the castle can be found on this website: https://www.blejski-grad.si/en/opening-hours-and-price-list

Even if you are not a hiker, you can take a simple hike, even with children, to the Adršpach Rocks in the neighbouring Czech Republic, 5 hours away. On the way, we recommend you make sure to make a stop in Brno and the Moravian Karst. After only an hour and a half drive from Bratislava, you will arrive in Brno, the Moravian capital of world importance. In the centre, the biggest landmarks are certainly the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul on Petrov Hill and Špilberk Castle. It's free to enter the grounds, but you only have to pay an admission fee to take an official tour of the castle. https://www.spilberk.cz/spilberk/pro-navstevniky/otviraci-doba-a-vstupne/

The Punkevní Cave is the most visited cave in the Czech Republic, located in the heart of the Moravian Karst just 37 km from Brno. It is the only Czech cave with underground navigation. The sightseeing route passes directly through the bottom of the 138-metre deep abyss Macocha, which got its name from a tragic legend. Entrance to the cave can be found here: https://www.caves.cz/jeskyne/punkevni-jeskyne

From the Moravian Karst you can reach the Adrpach Rocks in about 3 and a half hours. The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks are the largest and wildest rock town in Central Europe. You will find here a 3.5 km long hiking circuit. The hike is not too physically demanding and is therefore also suitable for families with small children. Another attraction of the rock town is the Great Waterfall, which falls into the rock gorges from a height of 16 metres. When visiting the Adršpach Rocks, you should definitely not miss a boat trip on the romantic lake between the rocks.

Neighbouring Austria offers many tourist possibilities. The Hohe Wand Nature Reserve, 130 km away near Vienna, is a paradise for hikers, families with children and all nature lovers looking for new experiences. The mountain road takes you comfortably up to an altitude of about 1000 m above sea level. There is also a rock trail, a magnificent lookout tower or the Skywalk observation deck, which lies 150 m high above the valley and will delight all lovers of heights and views. Hohe Wand is also the name of a table-top limestone mountain that offers maximum hiking opportunities. If you want to try ferrata, you won't find anything better around Bratislava. There are plenty of easy, moderate and difficult routes.

For a trip to the mountains, we definitely recommend the Volkswaagen T-Cross with a high chassis. Book your car HERE.

Austria's Grand Canyon Ötscher will delight you with the fantastic views and the beautiful flora and fauna of the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Reserve. With an area of 170 km2, the nature reserve is even larger than Liechtenstein. Most tourists in the area head for the Schutzhaus Vorderötscher hut. The road there leads past the Stierwaschboden power station, then through the impressive Ötschergräben gorge to the Mirafälle and Schleierwasserfälle waterfalls. The Ötschergraben gorge is not only one of Austria's most beautiful gorges, but also boasts the distinction of being the longest, narrowest and deepest gorge in Austria. Ötscher can be reached by car from Hohe Wand in less than 2 and a half hours and from Bratislava in about 3 hours.

100 km away, near the Austrian village of Mixnitz, is the Bear Gorge - Bärenschützklamm. This beautiful natural creation is a protected natural monument. The hike through this gorge is for all ages, is safe and usually ends at the small inn of the Good Shepherd, located at an altitude of 1209 m above sea level. There are 49 wooden ladders, 115 wooden bridges and footbridges leading through the gorge, with a total of an incredible 2,900 steps, for a distance of only 1,400 metres. Look forward to 24 waterfalls, including one 50 m high, countless cascades, bizarre rock formations, caves and one rock dome. All around you can enjoy the water, mosses, stones or limestone rocks and enjoy the roar of the waterfall.
